WinTail

A free text file tail utility for Windows.

What is WinTail?

WinTail allows you to view the last 64K of a growing text file in real time under Win32 operating systems. It's a bit like using the "tail -f" command under UNIX. This is particularly useful for:

Viewing program execution traces in real-time.
Viewing application logs in real-time.
Quickly viewing the last part of a large file without the need to load the entire file.

Current Release Features

The current release of Wintail is Version 2002, Release 7 (29 November 2002). Release 7 has improved command line handling with the ability to specify multiple files on the command line. The key features of WinTail are:

CONTAINS NO SPYWARE OR ADWARE OF ANY KIND.
Easy terms of use.
Small, stand-alone Win32 executable (approximately 50K).
Uncluttered screen view with all the features of windows edit controls (including cut, copy and paste).
Filename may be specified on the command line or by browsing.
Multiple filenames may be specified on the command line.
Recent files list.
Automatic sizing commands for easy window positioning.
"Always on top" option.
Ability to set the font.
Indicates file size in window title bar.
Large file support (>2GB).
Continues tailing files through an end of file (EOF) character.
Stores all configuration information in the Win32 registry under the key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\WinTail".
